General Movie Information

The Internet Movie Database
The first stop for movie info. Strength is its crosslinked credits, but also has a wealth of on-site information and links to other material.
Dark Horizons
A good site for keeping up with movie news and rumours. Australian made, too, although they keep that quiet.
Ain't it Cool
I've resisted listing them for ages, but despite all the nonsense, geekish posturing and frequent rubbish, the sad fact is that I read this page nearly every day.
Rotten Tomatoes

The essential site for those days when you just want all the nuances of film criticism reduced to a popularity contest.

DVD Reviews & Information

Michael's Region 4 DVD Page
While it's showing signs of neglect lately, this is still the best site for Region 4 DVD reviews.
DVDBits
While the reviews aren't usually quite as informative, lately this has been a much better site for Region 4 news than Michael D's site.
The Digital Bits
The only Region 1 page I regularly visit.

Animation

Animated News
Excellent daily round-up of animation news from around the web.
Michael Barrier
Barrier is probably the most incisive writer there is on American animation, and his website publishes essays, reviews, and interviews with classic animators.
Cartoon Brew

Amid Amidi & Jerry Beck's blog provides regular animation-releated commentary.
Animation ID

In-depth analysis of classic cartoons, focussing on the work of animators in particular, well supported by clips. A must read for cartoon buffs.

Other Australian-Based Movie Sites

In Film Australia
Excellent site offering the kind of regular coverage I simply can't. I am now a semi-regular contributor to the site, with some of my reviews and articles appearing there.
Hoopla.nu
Another good review site with more frequent updates than mine.
At the Movies
This is the site for David Stratton and Margaret Pomerantz's excellent movie program.
Senses of Cinema
Online journal with in-depth articles (published quarterly rather than updated frequently). My essay on Spielberg is in their Great Directors section.
Melbourne Film Blog

Intelligent film commentary by Paul Martin.
Last Night with Riviera

Another good film commentary / review blog, this one by Sydney-based Matt Riviera.
FilmInk
The site for the Australian film magazine, with a good amount of on-line content.
eFilmCritic
A good idea: a local site that shares content with a US sister site. Often has interesting articles.
Cinephilia
More local reviews. Despite the name, Cinephilia and Cinephobia are not the Data and Lore of the online film review scene.
Urban Cinefile
For a long time this was probably the most prominent Australian based review site, but most content now requires a subscription.
The Chopping List
Excellent resource cataloguing movies that have been banned, censored, or altered in Australia.
Movie Heretic

Local review site specialising in horror.

Other Film and Pop Culture Related Sites

David Bordwell

David Bordwell is a towering figure in film studies, and thanks to the web we now get his thoughts on a regular basis, for free.
Something Old, Nothing New
Jaime J. Weinman's excellent general pop-culture blog: ostensibly focussed on "older" stuff.
TV Guidance

Weinman's other blog - this one on current TV.
Kung Fu Monkey
An excellent, wide-ranging blog from screenwriter John Rogers.
The Flick Filosopher

Maryann Johanson's site is one of the best on-line review sites.
Her Majesty's Secret Servant

Occasional Web magazine covering James Bond.
CommanderBond.Net
James Bond News.
The Force.net

The best unofficial Star Wars site.
OriginalTrilogy.com

Sign the petition to get the unaltered Star Wars trilogy on DVD.
