March of the Dorkofascists
I haven't seen any of the new Battlestar Galactica - something for which I was chided by friends while I was overseas. The reasons to do so keep adding up: for a start, it's the subject of this intriguing article by Brad Reed, which looks at the way in which conservatives have been disturbed by a shift in the show's politics. What I really liked about the article is its coining of the phrase "dorkofascist." A dorkofascist is someone who uses analogies with science fiction and fantasy franchises like Galactica and Star Trek to justify their conservative outlook on real world politics. The obvious corollary is "dorkoliberal," and I can only assume that my article on the politics of Star Wars ensures I make the grade. Labels: commentary
